Xtremes Go Bronx, Muddy and Country!

Three of our Moravia Bootcampers braved the WARRIOR RUN up Labrador Mountain in Truxton, surpassing 11 obstacles (wind tunnel, fire, rope wall, etc.),  over the course of the 5K this past Saturday.  Aubin Mooney and Greg and Heather Genson, used this challenge to help prepare them for the Mountain Goat Run in Syracuse this next weekend.  WARRIOR WEBSITE

Terry Mattice, Kendal at Ithaca bootcamper, and his son, Noah, tore up the pathways at the Bronx Zoo 5K this past weekend!  This father-son running duo started last year and Noah is always stretching his dad to new heights.  Terry raged through the zoo grounds to a personal 5K record of 23:15.  Next up is the Ithaca Festival Mile for these two.  WEBSITE

Traci Foster, Lansing, chipped away at her Rock N Roll 1/2 Marathon tour around the country, as she stopped in Nashville on Saturday to earn another medal!  With the tough course Traci still managed to blast a 2:30.04.  Also pictured below is Traci kicking it at the Rock N Roll in DC in March!  Fantastic job also being accepted to run the Disney series this year.

Xtremes Passed The Skunk Cabbage Test

To wrap up a solid weekend, starting with the Corporate bootcampers in Cortland on Saturday, other Xtreme runners tore up the pavement in Ithaca at the 31st Skunk Cabbage 10k and Half Marathon on Sunday.  Moravia bootcampers pictured at the right, Todd Younger (164th overall, 50:32), Kathy Hovis (376th overall, 1:03.51), and Celeste Carmichael (375th overall, 1:03.46), powered their way through the 31st Annual Skunk Cabbage 10k in Ithaca on April 1st.  This was Kathy’s first career race.  Great job Rookie.  These three have been dedicated to their Monday night bootcamp sessions for several years now and their winter training has paid off already this year!  A fourth star performer was Jennifer Casterline (101st overall) of Dryden, and FLXF Headquarters member, who finished with a bronze medal for the women’s 35-39 age group, with her time of 46:55.  There were 458 participants.

Jon Lovesky, newly committed Corporate bootcamper dropped a second from last year’s performance in the Half Marathon, by blasting a 1:23.47!  That is a 6:24 average mile and earned himself a silver medal for men’s 40-44.  Jon finished 14th overall!  Keep an eye on this runner this year.  Kelli Morgan of Union Springs, and Aurora bootcamper, finished 186th overall, and 5th place for women’s 40-44.  Kelli wrapped up a 1:46. 45.  There were 608 participants.

Xtreme Bootcampers opened their race season in Cortland this weekend. It was awesome having the Corporate Bootcampers get 12 participants from their company to tear up the road race in Cortland on 3/31. Brozon Jumps Into 1st Place

Aaron Brozon of Aurora, and FLXF trainer, finally gets back into competitive form, this time putting his jump rope skills to the test.  After several attempts, he blasted out 184 jumps in a minute to take the lead on the men’s side on February 12th.  What a great way to spend a snowy day indoors.  He took a four jump lead over Jason Stilwell of Ithaca, and is only two jumps off of the Xtreme record set by myself in 2009.  Check out his video and his enthusiam at the end located on our facebook page.  This was a big week for the 38-year old, as he also set a new personal record in the deadlift with 300 pounds.

Ellen Leventry of Ithaca, remains atop the women’s leaderboard with 230 jumps in a minute.  After three seasons, she remains the one and two minute jump rope recorld holder.  Cheryl Welsh of Ithaca is cutting the lead down as she has improved to 204 jumps.   No room for error on the women’s side!  It’s all technique.

Results Worth a Toast!

FLXF has continued to be represented well at various races this fall throughout central New York.  The temperatures have of course been cooling down, but our racers continue to drive forward to stay on track for personal bests, maintain fitness levels, and of course to stay motivated!

10/2 Wineglass Marathon in Corning, celebrated it’s 30th year!  We were fortunate to have two Xtremes tear up the course.  Aubin Mooney, Moravia, ran her first career marathon, and finished way ahead of her goal time clocking in at 3:56.48, placing her 594th overall, and 42nd for women 30-34.  Traci Foster, Ithaca, returned this year for her second marathon at Corning and shaved six minutes off of last year’s time, by finishing with a 4:37.02, placing her 1083rd overall, and 81st for women 30-34.  Both of these athletes followed a fourth month plan that enabled them to perform well at this 26.2 mile race.  Hats off to them for persevering through the high mileage training weeks!

10/15 18th Annual Cancer Resource Center 5K, held at Cass Park in Ithaca, had continuing outstanding support with 328 runners in the field, and musicians were spread throughout the whole park performing for the runners as they went scooting by.  Jennifer Casterline, Dryden, 22:03, 41st overall, captured the women’s 35-39 gold medal.  Wayne Moore, Virgil, 22:31, 54th overall, took the men’s 55-59 gold medal.  Caroline Rasmussen, Lansing, 24:47, 96th overall, won the women’s 50-54 gold medal.

10/16 5th Annual Chris Bond/T-Burg Rotary 5K had 219 runners on that beautiful morning.  This is our third year promoting this race as it continues to draw a large crowd.  Jennifer Casterline, Dryden, 22:34, 1st women’s 30-39; Matt Bennett, Aurora, 22:53, 4th men’s 40-49; Terry Mattice, Ithaca, 25:01, 8th men’s 50-59; Scott Miller, Lansing, 26:06, 7th men’s 40-49; Julie Bennett, Lansing, 28:12, 4th women’s 40-49.

10/16 Empire State Half Marathon in Syracuse, was a solid race for Traci Foster, Ithaca, as she ran her personal record for a half marathon with a time of 2:09.31!  She finished 616th out of 1138 total competitors, and 48th in women’s 30-34.  Traci plans on competing in a dozen Rock n Roll Half Marathons in 2012, and will be looking to go under two hours!  Great job considering she had major knee surgery only a few years ago.

10/22 Brooktondale Easy as Pie 5K, Terry Mattice, Ithaca, took the silver medal in the 50-59 age group, with a time of 24:59.  This course is by no means a flat one!  He has been representing our Kendal bootcampers at a handful of races this year.  The continued one-mile time trials around the Kendal At Ithaca facility are definitely benefiting this first year runner.

11/6 Camillus Wounded Warrior 5K, Cathy Hall, Moravia, continued her 2011 race tour taking it up north and is truly seeing a huge difference with her race performances since joining bootcamp at the Moravia Firehouse this fall.  She finished with a personal spectacular time of 35:21, finishing 233rd out of 309, with a 15th place for women’s 50-59.  Great job Cathy!

11/6 Bomber Blitz 5K at Ithaca College, FLXF owner, Andrew Gross, competed against more than 200 IC students, in a race that took competitors through the steep forest behind the athletic fields.  He led for a small portion of the trail race, but would once again finish in second place overall behind a student, and took home a time of 20:08.  He will be looking for his first career victory in 2012.
