FLXF has continued to be represented well at various races this fall throughout central New York. The temperatures have of course been cooling down, but our racers continue to drive forward to stay on track for personal bests, maintain fitness levels, and of course to stay motivated!
10/2 Wineglass Marathon in Corning, celebrated it’s 30th year! We were fortunate to have two Xtremes tear up the course. Aubin Mooney, Moravia, ran her first career marathon, and finished way ahead of her goal time clocking in at 3:56.48, placing her 594th overall, and 42nd for women 30-34. Traci Foster, Ithaca, returned this year for her second marathon at Corning and shaved six minutes off of last year’s time, by finishing with a 4:37.02, placing her 1083rd overall, and 81st for women 30-34. Both of these athletes followed a fourth month plan that enabled them to perform well at this 26.2 mile race. Hats off to them for persevering through the high mileage training weeks!
10/15 18th Annual Cancer Resource Center 5K, held at Cass Park in Ithaca, had continuing outstanding support with 328 runners in the field, and musicians were spread throughout the whole park performing for the runners as they went scooting by. Jennifer Casterline, Dryden, 22:03, 41st overall, captured the women’s 35-39 gold medal. Wayne Moore, Virgil, 22:31, 54th overall, took the men’s 55-59 gold medal. Caroline Rasmussen, Lansing, 24:47, 96th overall, won the women’s 50-54 gold medal.
10/16 5th Annual Chris Bond/T-Burg Rotary 5K had 219 runners on that beautiful morning. This is our third year promoting this race as it continues to draw a large crowd. Jennifer Casterline, Dryden, 22:34, 1st women’s 30-39; Matt Bennett, Aurora, 22:53, 4th men’s 40-49; Terry Mattice, Ithaca, 25:01, 8th men’s 50-59; Scott Miller, Lansing, 26:06, 7th men’s 40-49; Julie Bennett, Lansing, 28:12, 4th women’s 40-49.
10/16 Empire State Half Marathon in Syracuse, was a solid race for Traci Foster, Ithaca, as she ran her personal record for a half marathon with a time of 2:09.31! She finished 616th out of 1138 total competitors, and 48th in women’s 30-34. Traci plans on competing in a dozen Rock n Roll Half Marathons in 2012, and will be looking to go under two hours! Great job considering she had major knee surgery only a few years ago.
10/22 Brooktondale Easy as Pie 5K, Terry Mattice, Ithaca, took the silver medal in the 50-59 age group, with a time of 24:59. This course is by no means a flat one! He has been representing our Kendal bootcampers at a handful of races this year. The continued one-mile time trials around the Kendal At Ithaca facility are definitely benefiting this first year runner.
11/6 Camillus Wounded Warrior 5K, Cathy Hall, Moravia, continued her 2011 race tour taking it up north and is truly seeing a huge difference with her race performances since joining bootcamp at the Moravia Firehouse this fall. She finished with a personal spectacular time of 35:21, finishing 233rd out of 309, with a 15th place for women’s 50-59. Great job Cathy!
11/6 Bomber Blitz 5K at Ithaca College, FLXF owner, Andrew Gross, competed against more than 200 IC students, in a race that took competitors through the steep forest behind the athletic fields. He led for a small portion of the trail race, but would once again finish in second place overall behind a student, and took home a time of 20:08. He will be looking for his first career victory in 2012.
