Brozon Completes CrossFit Level 1 Trainer Program

FLXF Trainer, Aaron Brozon, traveled to New Jersey, this past July to complete the CrossFit Level-1 Trainer program.  Aaron is an expert with developing, following, and teaching regimens by this nationwide fitness franchise that emphasizes high intensity, constantly varied workouts that incorporate endless functional movements.

The CrossFit program can be scaled for people of all ages, for those that are preparing  for passing regular or intro physical tests for all types of law enforcement and military operations requirements, or anyone that is looking to spruce up with weekly routines.  When was the last time you ran with sandbags over your shoulders, flip a tractor tire, or blasted through a kipping pull-up?  Most importantly, when was the last time you felt AWESOME after a powerful workout?

Bootcamper Turns 74!

Jane Kaplan, of Ithaca and a retired professor from Ithaca College, is turning 74 years old this weekend!  Jane is our oldest bootcamper at all locations, and we decided to celebrate her birthday last night at City Health Club Bootcamp, with an exciting combo of 74 Sit-Ups, 74 Squats, and 74 seconds of Push-Ups.  What an exciting birthday gift that all 12 participants would partake in…after 40 minutes of already warming up.  She never misses a beat as she is a great asset to our class with her upbeat attitude and her love for our city beats mixes.  We have a very dedicated crew down there at City Health Club on Thursdays at 5:00 PM.  Thank you to everyone for sticking with our class as we have our two year anniversary at that location this December!

Xtreme Team Battles Caspar

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

This was a challenging course as all the participants battled the Caspar Climb toward the finish line.  The climb is 0.3 of a mile of brutal incline beginning at lake level.  This race brought together 80 participants for the 1 mile and 5K races which supported funds for the local youth and teen camp (Camp Gregory).   Xtreme was well represented as six bootcampers took to the fields from several towns representing King Ferry, Moravia, and Molino Bootamps.  The Xtreme Team workouts have been paying off as everyone looked strong coming through the finish line and thanks for hanging in there to master this feat!

Mr. Xtreme led for most of the race, but slipped into a second place overall.  Kelli Morgan, of Union Springs, finish in 3rd place overall in the women’s field.  Both top two spots beat the previous course record!

Xtremes Flood Groton

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

We had a great showing at the 14th Annual Groton Labor Day 5K on Monday, September 5th, 2011.  This was the most challenging race of the year, thus far, as the pelting rain continued vigorously throughout the race.  For about a half a mile along the old railroad bed, we pounced in and out of 5 inches of water, but everyone managed to get through it and work their way back through the village to the high school track and cross the finish line.

What a great surprise, as Jeremy Downs, a former Cornell University ice hockey star, blasted through his first career 5K in 20:28!  It looks like he may be out to catch Mr. Xtreme!

Even with the intense weather, the race, which raised funds for the Groton cross country program, still attracted 151 participants that morning.  2011 newcomers, Terry Mattice and Ellen Leventry completed their second 5K of the season.  Thank you to Groton cross country coach, Scott Weeks, and the rest of his volunteer staff for putting on an outstanding race.  This race was a fantastic stepping stone for the upcoming Camp Gregory 5K on September 17th, which includes the infamous Casper Climb beginning down at the lakefront.

Thanks for everyone braving the tropical storm!

On Saturday, September 3rd, FLXF trainers, Aaron and Christine Brozon, participated in the “31 Heroes Workout” in downtown Ithaca.  100% of proceeds from this event, which took place throughout the nation and rest of world yesterday, will go to funds, including the Navy SEAL Foundation, for the families that have been affected by the tragedy on August 6th, in which 31 of our heroes were killed in action .   This fundraiser was put on around the world by the fitness franchise, Crossfit, which raised $31/person and participants completed a specific workout for 31 minutes.  To see the brutal workout that our trainers fought through yesterday, check out the link!  31 Heroes Workout

On Saturday, September 10th, Aaron and Christine, will be participating in the 13th Annual AIDS Ride for Life, on the Ithaca based team, “BNI Summit.”  They will sprint 100 miles around Cayuga Lake for this benefit, that continues to raise money to provide services to HIV+ persons and state of art prevention education.  If you know this bike route goes through your town, step outside and thank the participants for their hard work!  To learn more about this event, check out the link!  AIDS Ride for Life
